MMM – Magnetic Measurements & Modelling

Section Leader: Marco Buzio

The MMM section is responsible of

● Magnetic characterization of:

– permanent, normal- and superconducting magnets

– materials

– other magnetic devices (e.g. shields)

● Development and integration of specialized instrumentation for magnetic characterization, such as:

– sensors and metrological techniques

– mechatronic/software components

– online systems for field monitoring and control (“B-trains” and similar)

● CERN-wide consultancy for low frequency magnetic field related safety

● Development of data-driven mathematical models for open- and closed-loop dynamic field control (ex. FiDeL)

● Development and maintenance of the ROXIE (Routine for the Optimization of magnet X-sections, Inverse field calculation and coil End design) modelling package

● Group-wide support for electronic instrumentation
